Nebraska Range Buck Test

From May to October, each year, Peterson Boer Goats are the primary managers of the Nebraska Range Buck Test. This is a performance based buck test based solely upon a forage diet for the bucks. Basically, we are testing which breeders, which breeds, which ages, perform the best without the luxury of corn, hay, and pampering.

This test is the first of its kind in this region and our goals are to develop and improve the meat goat industry through research and data collection associated with this event.

We began in 2009, with 20 bucks from 12 different breeders in 4 states. Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, and Missouri are all represented. Results and photos are posted regularly at www.petersonboergoats.com

At the end of the test, in October, the test bucks are auctioned off in Gothenburg, NE. Participants can sell their test bucks as well as additional related breeding stock at this sale. In 2009, we consigned and sold 75 head of performance tested meat goats. In 2010 we expect to be bigger and better.

I would appreciate your help in promoting my project. If you have any interest in improving your breeding stock, or if you know other goat folks who might, please pass this along.

If you have any questions or need more detail, let me know.
